Latest Updates from Our Project:

Fulfillment almost finished! A big surprise and community updates
about 1 year ago – Thu, Apr 06, 2023 at 06:17:52 AM

Hello, amigos! Looking at the latest updates, you can trace a timeline, more or less accurate, of the journey Scarface 1920 has made in recent months. From factories in China, going through a long shipping process, some hiccups along the way, to reaching distribution hubs and starting fulfillment. In our last update, we already told you that many regions had begun to receive the game, and in this one, we're taking another step towards completing that process.

How is the global fulfillment going? The most important news is that in the last month, there has been a significant acceleration in the delivery of Scarface 1920. In the regions of USA, Canada, Australia, and most of the UK, the game has already been delivered to everyone. Obviously, there have been isolated cases that have had some problem, and we will address them now. In the rest of the regions, delivery is also proceeding at a good pace: in Asia, only a few remote countries are left (such as Sri Lanka or Vietnam), and in Europe, the process is 75% complete. European backers who haven't received the game: don't worry, it will arrive soon. In fact, some Spanish friends are receiving Scarface 1920 this week, so little by little, it will be in your hands.

SOLVING THE PROBLEMS

Although the vast majority of backers have received the game without any problem, some of you have reported the classic packaging errors. For example, a few backers have received cards in the wrong language. Well, when we detected this error a month ago, we immediately asked the factory to reprint packs of cards in all languages, for everyone affected. In addition, other corrections were requested so that those affected would have the fastest possible response.

Well, exactly today the reprinting process of the gang members - among other things - ends, and from Redzen Games, we have decided to send them by urgent air freight to the distribution hubs, from where they should arrive at the homes of the affected soon. By the way, if anyone has received the game in the last few days and has found cards in the wrong language, or any other issue, just let us know (you know, any queries to [email protected]) because we have printed extra decks.

AND FINALLY… A BIG SURPRISE!

Redzen Games is a young company that aims to take care of its product to the fullest and offer the backer, you, a premium experience not only in gameplay - although it is the most important - but throughout the process. From the moment you give us your trust on Kickstarter until you can deploy the game with your friends and establish strategies to win.

In that sense, one of the (several) pending accounts we had with the community was to publish an updated gameplay video. As I said, we like to take care of every detail of what we do, so we haven't done it until we managed to do it with the best. Take note, this is important:

Next Tuesday, April 11th, at 10:00am EDT (4:00pm CET), we will play a live game on The Dice Tower channel. And it won't be just any game: it will last between 2 and 3 hours, with the presence of a member of the Redzen Games team, and of course, Mr Tom Vasel will also be there. Oh, and at the end, there will be a SURPRISE... well, actually, there will be a BOMB. Don't miss it!

You will be able to see it here, where you can already set up a notification so you don't miss it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbnznZF866Y

There's still a long way to go until April 11th, right? No problem, in the last few days some very interesting videos about Scarface 1920 have been published.

LITTLE COMMUNITY UPDATE

In the last update, we mentioned that we were enjoying the birth of a "Scarface 1920 community" very much. It's easy to notice in the comments of the updates, but especially on BGG, where very interesting debates are formed about the game, game strategies and, especially, about skills and combos. Seriously, take a look because you'll find some very interesting information.

Among the incredible things happening around Scarface 1920, today we want to highlight IPSMAC, who is the first fan - that we know of - to have painted all the game miniatures. Spectacular, isn't it? Congratulations! You can check all his photos in detail here: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3047178/scarface-1920-all-minis-painted

Before saying goodbye, we want to thank you again for your support on BGG. Scarface 1920 has an incredible score of 8.3 with more than 450 reviews and continues to climb positions in the global ranking: we are close to reaching the top 3000! Any vote helps us, so... thank you and see you soon!

Fulfillment, amazing content and the growth of a great community
about 1 year ago – Tue, Mar 07, 2023 at 02:26:47 PM

Hello friends! Since late 2022, we have been informing you in great detail about the entire process that has led Scarface 1920 from a factory in China to your homes, with special attention to shipping and fulfillment. Although more and more people have been able to receive their Scarface 1920 boxes, there are still some backers who are waiting to have the game in their hands.

In previous updates, we mentioned that the conversation in the community would gradually shift from the tedious shipping process to what we are really waiting for at Redzen Games: unboxings, opinions, game strategies, game suggestions, debates on KS and BGG about which boss works best or the most devastating combos. Since the shipping process for Scarface 1920 travels at different speeds to more than 70 countries, this update aims to give answers to both those who have already tried the game and want us to talk about it, and those who are still in the previous step.

FULFILLMENT STATUS

At Redzen Games, we have been resolving doubts in recent weeks through Kickstarter, our support email, social media, or BGG. The information you will find below is the latest update we have on the fulfillment status in different regions:

United States: Fulfillment near completion, most backers have received their pledge.

Canada: Fulfillment in progress, more than half of the backers have received their pledge during the last two weeks.

Australia: Fulfillment near completion. Australian backers already have the game and others are starting to receive it in farther islands, such as New Zealand.

Asia: Fulfillment in progress. China and the closest countries have already received the games. Farther countries might take some more time for customs.

United Kingdom: Games arrived at the hub ten days ago: stock check, verifications, and packaging are being done. We have already approved the packaging and protections proposed by Gamesquest. Fulfillment will start in 1 or 2 weeks.

Europe: In Europe, we have not had good luck with shipping, although we can give you some good news. Last Tuesday, we informed you that one of the two containers that arrived at the port was chosen for inspection by customs. When that happens, the containers are diverted to an official warehouse where the inspectors can scan or open if needed. This is a routinary mechanism that is completely beyond our control. Well, the good news is that after a few days of tense waiting, the inspection ended without problems today, and the shipment has been released. We are organizing the urgent pick-up so that it can start its truck trip to Germany during this week, from where it will be distributed to all European backers after the usual Hub process (stock check, destination verifications, packaging, etc).

We know that EU backers are not happy about this situation. Neither are we. We are fulfilling fast and well worldwide, almost simultaneously, but this specific shipment has encountered problems after problems. This European shipment delay has become a huge problem that is affecting many backers… and ourselves. We are very sorry for the delay and hope that we are already in the final stretch of this phase.

THE GROWTH OF A GREAT COMMUNITY

While we wait for European backers, among others, to join the conversations about Scarface 1920, at Redzen Games, we are overwhelmed and extremely satisfied with the excellent reception and the explosion of content that is being generated around the game. It is really gratifying to read your opinions, watch your gameplay or unboxing videos, see your photos on Instagram (#scarface1920), read your proposals to improve the game experience, and discover strategies that, after hundreds of games, we had not yet carried out.

To not bore you with all the material that has been generated in recent weeks, here are some unboxings:

Quackalope

Dice Tower

Gettin' Jiggly Wit It

By the way, if anyone wants to watch more videos of this kind, you can find them on our BGG page, which is updated daily.

In addition to videos, the community is starting to generate very interesting and creative content. For example, we have already seen (or listened) several Spotify playlists created by BGG users, some more classic with 1920s Jazz, others more modern retro tunes, and an Ambient instrumental one totally perfect for focused play. Thanks William Conger and Dana Westburg!

More focused on the contents of the cards themselves, Tom Duong has made a very useful Gang Members quick reference table, that you can check in this BGG forum post.

Some of you have even started painting your miniatures, and the result is amazing. Check Tomer Eliash miniatures and Brian Abshire’s ring. Amazing stuff!

Scarface 1920 - Miniatures painted by community members

Nearly two years after Scarface 1920 arrived on Kickstarter, and many adventures later, we are smiling from ear to ear when we see the spectacular community that is being built around the game. That is our greatest success, as well as seeing how every day new Scarface 1920 fans are appearing around the world. In fact, there are two facts that best reflect all of this:

Scarface 1920 has a rating of 8.5 on BGG with over 220 votes counted. Thank you. I mean, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. If you have tried the game, we invite you to leave your vote so that the community continues to grow. Link to the BGG page

The craziness of content generated in recent days has forced us to seek reinforcements. And there is no better place to find someone to help us manage the community than in the community itself. Alan Murell is a backer from Vancouver (Canada). Many of you will have already seen his posts and answers in the forums. Alan has a very deep knowledge of the rules of Scarface 1920, as well as the mechanics and context of the game, in addition to being one of the most active members of the community. So, we want to tell you that Alan is a new official member of the Redzen Support Team for BGG and Kickstarter. He will help us answer any questions that arise about Scarface 1920, but also propose conversation topics. We are delighted to have him on board. Welcome Alan!

ASSOCIATES

And what topics are emerging from the community in these early days? There are many, but one of the most interesting has to do with the Associates. As you know, Scarface 1920 has 60 different Associates, each with their own type of crime, their main skills, and their matching skills. Associates are placed in the common market, so from the opposite side of the table, they are somewhat difficult to see. A piece of advice: if you play with Capone or Rothstein, it is very helpful to see what Associates are available and what their skills are. Since we don't aspire to have you memorize them yet, we've read some of your requests and created an Associates Reference Sheet so that everyone can have it and print it out. Download it here.

The Associates Reference Sheet is a 3 page printer-friendly PDF document that lists the 60 Associates of the game in alphabetical order, making it easy to find them. For now, it is only available for the English version - we haven't had time for more - but we are already working to have it available in Spanish, French, German, and Korean as well. By the way, we couldn't find a better time than this to thank Marc and Ester, our graphic designers. They are the best!

The Associates Reference Sheet is just a first step, as our intention is to constantly publish goodies that meet your needs and ideas. In fact, since the Kickstarter campaign ended, we have been eager to offer you tools so that you can develop the Scarface 1920 universe, but we had to wait until you had the game to do so. And since we're talking about Associates, why not a template so that you can make your own?

We are delighted to offer you a pack of 30 content-less cards in PDF format so that everyone can make their own Associates. There are 30 cards because there are six types of crime and five different levels (stars).

Download it here.

The cards have a bleed margin, so you will need to cut them out at their size: 65x100mm. By the way, along with this document, you will also find all the icons with a transparent background to use when creating the cards. The official font of Scarface 1920 is Knockout, although there is a similar free version called Archivo at Google Fonts. Needless to say, we can't wait to see what Associates you come up with!

Finally, as always, we extend our hand to those who are having any problems with the reception of the game, whether they have found a defective component, a broken box or cards in the wrong language. It's not the ideal scenario, but it's common when it comes to packaging and shipping thousands of boxes. If you find yourself in this situation, we will be happy to help you at [email protected]

See you soon!

Past and future: inexperience and learning
about 1 year ago – Thu, Feb 09, 2023 at 09:58:27 AM

Redzen Games was born with the dream of creating excellent board games, where the mechanics were at the service of the narrative, where players enjoyed immersive experiences and new challenges, where every game was a memorable adventure. We wanted to make the best board game we could... and we sincerely believe that Scarface 1920 is that game. Each of the backers who have walked this path with us will see for themselves very soon.

Facing the challenge of making a board game, in our case, has been an exercise of constant leaps into the void, especially with everything that has to do with production and distribution of the game. It was our first time in both those extremely complex areas. I’m not telling you anything you don't know already, since we have tried to be transparent and keep you informed at all times. We don't want this to sound like an excuse: inexperience does not free us from having made mistakes, but it makes some situations that have occurred more understandable.

We explain all this because, in the comments, we have learned today that some German backers have received a newsletter from their local publisher informing them that the retail version of Scarface 1920 was already available for purchase on their website. How is it possible that they have received it faster than us? Mainly because of our inexperience in international logistics, in a particularly difficult year in this field, but also because those companies have been handling thousands of shipments, containers, customs, imports and distribution for many years, and they know how to do it well.

When we found out about this situation, besides feeling a huge frustration, we asked the publisher directly to wait for the backers to receive the game before making it available for sale, but they have decided to keep their plans. This situation has repeated in France, but not in Spain, for example, where the retailer (in this case SD Games) has understood the situation and cooperates so that the first to have the game in the country are the backers. It is the fairest thing to do and, in perspective, it makes all the sense in the world to include this clause in the contract with the different publishers. But when we signed contracts more than a year and a half ago, we didn't suspect that this could happen, and we didn't include it.

When we at Redzen Games, at the beginning of this story, started negotiations with the publishers, for us there were no internal discussions about when one or the other would have access to the game, purely out of ignorance. For us, there was only the happy news that Scarface 1920 would be available in more languages and in as many countries as possible. Being totally transparent, the economic part never weighed too much in these decisions, because the margin of benefit we get in retail is very small. We accept our mistake, we apologize again and we can assure you that it will not happen again in the future, one way or another. In fact, decisions are already being taken so that this type of problem will never happen again.

By the way, we would like to clarify that the German Scarface 1920 units that can already be purchased on the Spiele Offensive website are those of the retail edition, not Kickstarter units with their exclusive products, but it is undeniable that this is not the timing that events should have followed.

SHIPPING STATUS, FINAL EPISODE (Hopefully) and KS EXCLUSIVES
about 1 year ago – Wed, Feb 01, 2023 at 01:56:39 PM

Hello, friends!

Two months and three updates after we started talking about shipping (1, 2 and 3), the time has come to put an end to everything related to this section. And that can only mean that the ships loaded with alcohol and weapons Scarface 1920 games have already arrived at their destination ports or are about to do so. This is the current status of the shipping by region and, unless there are any surprises, the dates are final:

Australia: Scarface 1920 is already in the distribution hub and the company in charge of the fulfillment is Aetheroworks. It could arrive at any time now. Australian friends, we want to see you unboxings, gameplays, photos on Instagram and comments in all the forums!

China: Chinese New Year is over, which means that VFI resumes fulfillment for all Asia. A matter of days too.

Canada: The game arrived in Toronto last January 23 after crossing the whole country by train. Literally: more than 4000 km from the port of Vancouver to Toronto. Once in Toronto, it was delivered to the hub with a slight delay (yesterday, in fact), and according to the fulfillment company (Pick 'n pack Logistics), it will start shipping boxes next week.

United States: The set arrived at the port of Miami last week and is on its way to the distribution hub. Quartermaster Logistics is the fulfillment company.

Europe: The logistics in Europe have had a small variation that will not change the delivery dates or, if it does, it will be positive for the European backers. It has been decided to deliver the cargo in Spain, instead of Germany, and then haul it by truck to Germany, where the European hub is located. That means the port arrival date will be on Feb 8th instead of Feb 13th, and then we have to add 2-3 days for the truck route. Overall, dates of the games reaching the hub stay the same. The reason for this change is because being Redzen an spanish company, it is easier and faster to get through Spain's customs process and paperwork than through Germany's. And once in Spain, we are already in the European Union, so we can move it freely. GamesQuest EU takes care of the fulfillment in Europe.

United Kingdom: The ship carrying Scarface 1920 will arrive in the UK on February 14th. It seems that Gamesquest had mistakenly published that it was already in port in their blog, but upon verification they have confirmed that it was an error and we are continuing with the previously planned deadlines. In this case, the company leading the fulfillment is also, of course, GamesQuest.

Enough of talking about ships already! In the last update we promised you that in the next one we would make a compilation of all the cards and Kickstarter Exclusive components that you will have in your hands when you receive the game (very soon!). Below you can see them in all their splendor, in their final form. Don't worry, everyone will have them in their corresponding language:

You can see it here in full detail resolution: https://www.redzengames.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/IMG_7799-scaled.jpg

After many months of talking about us, we are looking forward to hearing and reading your opinions. As we told our Australian friends, we want to read your thoughts about the game, watch gameplays and unboxings, freak out with your strategies and comment on your Instagram pictures of your games. We want to see all that, to fulfill what we promised you in the last update: to change the conversation turning them into community updates. To talk about Scarface 1920 and gaming.

Shipping status, episode 3... and a new kind of conversation
over 1 year ago – Thu, Jan 19, 2023 at 01:12:56 PM

Hello friends! It's been a month since our last update, so it's about time to review the shipping status... although, as you will see, there is less and less shipping and more and more Scarface 1920 units in the warehouses, from where it will be distributed to your homes. As in previous weeks, the status is different depending on the destination of the games and the location of the distribution centers, so let's detail all the information we have:

  • Australia: Games already delivered in the warehouse from Port
  • Canada: Games already delivered in Port (Vancouver) and trained to Toronto's warehouse. Estimated arrival: 23rd Jan
  • China: Games already delivered in the warehouse from the factory. Due to Chinese New Year, operations will reactivate soon
  • United States: Estimated Port arrival Date 23rd Jan.
  • United Kingdom: Estimated Port arrival Date 12th Feb.
  • Europe: Estimated Port arrival Date 13th Feb.

That means that, most likely, Australian backers will be the first to get their hands on the game. Surely, they won't have to wait long. In any case, it won't be long before all the ships arrive at the remaining destinations, which will certainly be a joy for you and a relief for us. We're not going to kid you: managing the shipments has been a major headache, as well as a lesson for the future.

We don't have much more to tell, so let us remind you of three other important issues:

1) Remember that, if you have any questions, problems, needs or suggestions, you will find us at [email protected]. We can not promise to answer instantly -sometimes we sleep-, but we do guarantee a personalized attention and the commitment to give you the best attention that is within our reach. We are really trying to make that a core value of our company.

2) If you remember, when we were visiting Essen, we had the opportunity to give a copy of Scarface 1920 to Mateusz Zajda, a very talented board game photographer from Poland who has worked for projects like Flamecraft or Everdell Spirecrest. We already showed you some pictures at the time, but now we have more material to show you. Cool, huh?

For your interest, Mateusz is also working in a new batch of photos for The Enforcers, the Paperboy and some of the game’s add-ons.

3) Now that you are about to try Scarface 1920, it's time to start having another kind of conversations. And yes, they are a bit more fun than shipping, as they have to do directly with the game experience and the level of challenge Scarface 1920 poses to you. For example, what strategies do you want to try, what bosses do you like the most or what combos work best for you? Do you have any doubts about the application of a rule, or do you think you might be executing an action incorrectly? All this, and much more, is starting to have its own space in the Scarface 1920 forum on the BGG. There you will also find us solving doubts, giving advice, hinting game strategies or making suggestions about the best combinations of the game... Join us!
