Hello friends! After flooding you with photos of the (almost) final version of Scarface 1920, which had a tremendously good feedback (thanks, we love you!), we are going to do exactly the same, but with text. After several months of work, we can finally offer you the translated final versions of the rulebooks in all the available languages, besides the English version we already saw.
Many of you requested to be able to read the rulebook in your language. We contacted the publishers, who are in charge of localizing the game to each language and distributing its retail version in their corresponding countries, in order to be able to share them with you. And we already have them here in French (thanks, Légion Distribution), German (thanks, Grimspire), Korean (thanks, Korea Board Games) and Spanish (thanks, SD Games). You can't imagine how proud we are of this image...
Below you will find the two rulebooks (Standard game and Solo mode) in the five languages in which Scarface 1920 will be available for now.
By the way, there are still a few backers -very few- who haven't finished paying the shipping yet. If you have any questions, you can contact us through the comments, Instagram or [email protected]. Come on, we are super close to having Scarface 1920 in your hands!

Hello friends! In the last update we explained to you the process we are undergoing before the shipping starts, and in the last few days we have been answering all your questions and concerns about it, and we will continue doing so until the end of August. You can still ask all the questions you want -you know we listen to you at [email protected], but we have so many amazing things in our hands that we couldn’t wait to publish this update, as we already have final samples of almost all the elements of the campaign. Take a seat and enjoy:
GAME BOX
The most important thing you should know about the Scarface 1920 box, beyond the fact that it has been upgraded from the version we showed you before, is that the Kickstarter Edition is VERY beautiful. We are talking about a 16cm high box (One more centimeter than the already impressive Nemesis box!), weighing almost 5kg (11 lbs). The Retail box is 12cm, by the way.
We have also increased the thickness of the box material, to make it more sturdy, from 1.5mm to 2mm, and also upgraded the insides, from a boring regular gray to an elegant black. Oh, and the bottom part sides have also been decorated with some of our most awesome illustrations.
Did you like the design of the box? Then you will like even more what you will find inside. In this case, we also have some new features and improvements that we want to talk about in detail:
6 Punchboards: Upgraded to linen finish for an even more premium quality.
Premium Crime Rate Markers: We added the band's logo print... it doesn't get more premium than that.
Gang Boards: Beautiful double layered piece with UV spot details, which has also been upgraded to linen finish.
Miniatures: The reason for some backers to get on this project and one of the most spectacular elements of Scarface 1920. Here you can see some of the miniatures you had not seen yet, which in fact are Kickstarter Exclusives: the Control Marker buildings and the Customized cars for each gang.
Customized Control Marker buildings for each gang (Kickstarter Exclusive)
Customized Car for each gang (Kickstarter Exclusive)
By the way, the most observant will have noticed that some of the miniatures in the photos different color tones. There is a reason: during the quality assurance phase we detected that some colors were more saturated than we would like (especially those of Seven Gems and Northside gangs), so we repeated the color tests until we found the definitive ones. The result is much more uniform and in line with the look and feel of Scarface 1920, as you can see in the following photo, with the final confirmed colors of each gang:
Final confirmed color for each gang's miniatures
Oh, and for those who doubted it, mass production is full steam ahead!
One of the jewels of the project is undoubtedly the Gametrayz, free exclusively for backers. Although you already know it thanks to the extensive update we made a few months ago, now we have new images that will give you a huge and strange visual pleasure, as you will see the real thing. Remember that the Kickstarter edition of Scarface 1920 includes 1 Base Tray, 3 Resources Trays and 4 Gang Trays.
All the trays and components inside the box.
RULEBOOK
The Rulebook has been another star of the show during the last months. You saw its PDF version, but now we want to show it to you in its physical version. In this case, there are no changes between both versions... but you should know that, when you hold it in your hands, it looks even better than we thought. By the way, many of you have asked us to publish the german and french versions of the rulebook. We are discussing it with the publishers and our intention, if they give us the ok, is to publish all the languages in a matter of days for you to read.
ARTBOOK
And from a book, of instructions, to another book, of art. The Art book is one of those products whose result is completely different from its initial conception. For the better. It was originally planned to be 35 pages long... and has ended up having more than 120. In addition, it has a lot of exclusive illustrations by Antonio Stappaerts, among them, the one on the cover. We also told you all about the Art book, but we felt the need to leave you some pictures here.
THE ENFORCERS
Allies or enemies, Alina, Tom and Raven are The Enforcers, the badasses of an Expansion Pack that has a deep and exciting impact on both multiplayer and solo mode. You already knew them, but now you can see that they are already here...
OTHER MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS
The last few weeks have been hectic because, in addition to the shipping, we have been working to finish off and polish all the products that we have been imagining and dreaming about for years (yes, years). Some of them have undergone slight modifications since their last versions, but in all cases it has been to obtain a more premium product that better fits the style of Scarface 1920 and the product we envisioned. After all, these gaming tables are going to seat some real bosses...
Wooden Crates: We've upgraded the printed logo to an engraved logo, so the wood under the paint is visible, giving it a more premium look. And before you ask, yes, each box has a lid that closes perfectly with the barrels and guns inside. Awesome!
Plastic Business Markers: Pay attention to these little markers because they undergo one of the most important modifications. They have gone from being 1.7mm (the same as their cardboard version) to 5mm, so it will look like we have in our hands the chips of a casino. Yes, as a gang boss you should always have casinos in your hands!
Plastic Dollars: We knew from the beginning that plastic dollars were going to be one of the most valued addons, since they not only add a premium touch to Scarface 1920 games, but they are also exportable to other games. In this case, during the quality assurance phase, we noticed that they had a glossy finish that we didn't like, so we had to change the material and print techniques. In addition, they have been upgraded from 1.7mm to 2.1mm, so now they are completely robust. And the result is spectacular.
Card Sleeves: Thanks to our partners at Sleevekings, true kings of the matter, the card sleeves are already packed and waiting for the rest of the components in the warehouse. Patience, almost there!
Posters: Few news for this addon, other than to remind you that it will not be an A3 size poster of Capone, but two A4 size posters of Capone and his archenemy Eliot Ness. So you can put them face to face in your room. They look fantastic, don’t they?
Neoprene Playmat: We are finishing this tour with the biggest and heaviest add-on of the campaign. To put it bluntly: the neoprene playmat is a bloody marvel. The colors, the details, the stitched borders, the quality of its materials... everything has an ultra-premium feel to it. That's why we decided, in the last minute, that it could not be stored in a plastic bag, and we've upgraded it to a reusable canvas bag with the printed logo. All that's left is for you to enjoy it.
Neoprene Playmat in all its glory, and the canvas carry bag which will contain it.
Regarding the production and its timings, in the last update we already told you that we were going to make good use of the last weeks of August to review, detect and carry out all the necessary adjustments while the shipping charge process was carried out. This extra time we received has proven precious to do an extensive quality assurance process: adjustments, readjustments, upgrades and last minute changes, but always making sure the game is as perfect as we always wanted it to be. Although we know we are in the last moments of launch countdown time, everything is coming together nicely. In early September the best version possible of Scarface 1920 will be leaving the factory. Soon, more news!
SHIPPING COSTS ARE SET AND READY

Hello friends! Our last updates had been focused on two very important aspects of the game: the Right Hands, that is, the Boss's most trusted men and women in each gang; and the Enforcers, that is, the Expansion Pack that adds more depth to the multiplayer mode and important new features for the solo mode.
The Right Hands and the Enforcers are some of the allies that will make you succeed in the game, but there is something much, much more important than having a winning strategy: having Scarface 1920 in your hands! Well, we have very important news in this regard, since we can finally talk about one of the star themes of any Kickstarter: Shipping. And within this point, the four most important aspects:
Why did it take us so long to activate shipping?
As you know from other Kickstarters, shipping is normally charged along with the taxes during the pledge manager period. In the case of Scarface 1920 that should have been at the beginning of the year. This was not the case for several reasons that we explained at the time, but that we would like to clarify again. The first and most important is that, at that time, the price of shipping was absurdly -mean CRAZY- high due to a perfect storm: the coronavirus crisis and the logistic chain crisis, accumulated christmas deliveries... in addition to which, I don't know if you remember, the almost comical situation of a huge container ship trapped for several days in the Suez Canal, blocking shipping worldwide.
For this reason, our partners at Shipquest recommended us not to charge for shipping at that time because the price was terribly high. On the other hand, BackerKit offered us a possibility, that at that time almost nobody had put into practice, which consisted of delaying the payment of the shipping until the moment before the game left the factory, separating it from the taxes payment. This is how it was done and we explained it to you at the time.
The day has come: Scarface 1920 is almost ready to sail the seas, so it's time to pay the shipping. And you may be wondering: have prices gone down compared to the beginning of the year? Well yes, around 30% depending on the destination, although unfortunately we have not yet reached pre-pandemic levels, so the costs have increased compared to the prices we estimated during the Kickstarter.
How have we calculated the cost of shipping?
The usual formula says that when the game is finished in China, it is packaged, put in containers that are distributed in several ships (depending on their destination) and shipped. In this case, the shipping cost would be the sum of the freight (the shipping cost from China to the distribution hubs); and the last mile, which is the cost from the distribution hub to the backer's home. To your home. The whole process has become more expensive as a whole: the last mile has skyrocketed due to the current price of fuel, and the freight, which used to be relatively cheap, has taken the hardest hit from all those crises. There is little we can do about the last mile, but we have been able to optimize the cost in freight, where the most important thing is to make the best use of space in each container.
After talking to several industry experts and evaluating all the possibilities, we have decided to ship all the elements of the game separate, from the core box of Scarface 1920 itself to each of the addons. Our manufacturer will not pre-pack each pledge. This way, we have been able to optimize the space occupied in each container and reduce the freight price. Those containers will then be sent to all the worldwide distribution hubs which, in the case of this project, are located in the United States, Canada, UK, Germany, China and Australia. It will be in each of these hubs where, although not initially planned, the final pledges of Scarface 1920 will be assembled for each backer. Don't worry, they are logistic centers specialized in doing exactly this task. This has an additional cost, but much smaller than filling containers with pre-packed pledges. Finally, from that point it will depart to the last mile by means of the parcel company of each country that will deliver the game to its destination. Doing it this way, we have achieved much lower prices than those we had been given some weeks ago, and in some cases even lower than what is usual nowadays.
Another very, very important change to optimize costs compared to the usual way of proceeding is that, instead of establishing a standard cost depending on the Pledge and the shipping country, our partner Shipquest has calculated the price for each of the backers individually. Yes, for the almost 8000 people who have supported Scarface 1920, the price has been calculated according to where you live, all the products you have added to your pledge and the best formula to optimize the space according to your order.
You can see the final price of your shipping by logging into your Backerkit account. You will find the cost as a Shipping Add-on in your pledge, on the bottom left. You will also receive, probably in the next 24h, an email from Backerkit announcing the collection of the corresponding amount and the date of charge.
How and when will the shipping be charged?
Backerkit has recommended we give a few days prior to the charge in order to help everybody make sure they have the needed funds in their accounts. The amount will be charged on Monday August 8th, 6:00pm CET, using the same payment method you used to pay the taxes. It is an automatic process: you don't have to do anything. Please note that countries that have VAT, such as those in the European Union, will also have to pay the VAT for shipping. We understand that this is not the ideal scenario, but it is legislation to which we are subject.
We want to emphasize that we do not get any benefit from this charge. 100% of the amount charged will go to shipping, with no margin for us. We insist: the prices are still higher than we had anticipated during the Kickstarter, but they are as tight as current international conditions allow for a project like ours taking in account the number of copies we ship, its volume and weight, and the final destinations.
What is next?
It is vital that the shipping collection process is carried out correctly and completely to be able load everything on the ships. Only in this way, and as we have mentioned, we will be able to optimize shipments and avoid doing this process in several waves, since that would imply wasting the volume of the containers (remember, the freight) and would raise the final price of shipping. For this reason, we are going to extend this process during the whole month of August, so we can make sure that everyone can make the payment on time and no one will be left behind without their Scarface 1920.
Our mission, from now on, will be to speed up the bureaucracy and carry out the necessary steps to ensure a slot for our containers on the ships, reduce port waiting times as much as possible and, above all, continue checking all the components coming out of the factory. Eastar will help us carry out an exhaustive Quality Assurance process, which will benefit from these two weeks of additional time.
PRODUCTION STATUS
And what about production? We have many things to show you in the drawer, but we believe that now is not the time to divert the focus, as shipping is a key milestone for the project. Of course, there will be an update very soon focused on the product, with lots of photos! Stay tuned because you are going to like them very much.
As always, before we say goodbye: if you have any problem related to shipping, the payment methods -or any other issue-, remember that you can write us an email to [email protected], leave us a comment in this update or assault us on social media (Twitter or Instagram). See you soon!
LET'S TALK ABOUT THE ENFORCERS!
– Sun, Jun 26, 2022 at 05:44:04 AM
Hello, friends. First and foremost: this update was supposed to talk about the shipping costs and the start of the shipping payment process, and we were delaying the update to wait for that information, but seeing that we will need a few more days to close this topic, and having promised to be more active on communications, we decided to advance the "smaller" update to give you something while we are waiting for the bigger andmore important update.
Just a quick status update: we have finally been able to solve all the optimized volumetry of the different levels of pledges and add-ons boxes, and our partner (Shipquest) is in the process of calculating all the prices to ship the thousands of boxes worldwide, with the lowest price possible. We are currently focused on two super important issues: shipping costs and coordination with the manufacturer for all the samples and final product details.
By the way, before you ask, manufacturing is going well, no delays for now to the expected August 15th delivery from factory. The manufacturer already has the final files for three complete languages and next week they will receive the final two language localizations, so we are good! So, parking those important project updates, let’s dive into the product update. Today, we focus exclusively on three characters that shone with their own light during the Kickstarter campaign: The Enforcers.
Scarface 1920 launched on Kickstarter a year ago, on June 15, 2021, and was funded in just 55 minutes. A wonderful journey full of hopes and challenges, but also responsibilities, began for us. The most important: to convince you that the bet on Scarface 1920 was a good idea.
The best way to demonstrate it was by making Scarface 1920 bigger, including different game modes, launching new cards that broaden game horizons or even, as in the case at hand, with a free expansion for all of you who supported us during the Kickstarter campaign.
First of all, in our never ending search for an even better product, we changed The Enforcers box cover once again: Antonio Stappaerts made a more detailed illustration of the three characters, with very powerful lightning, and a new background, that makes them stand out better while giving us an interesting scene of Chicago at night, where they thrive. Here you go:
As you know, The Enforcers is an Expansion Pack that adds more depth to the multiplayer mode and important new features for the solo mode. It is made up of three new characters, and each of them has their own miniatures and their corresponding cards for the two game modes. Let’s see them in more detail than we have seen ever before.
Alina Ivankova | Russian ex-combatant, Alina Ivankova has arrived to Chicago helped by Russians whom she faced during the Revolution. Temperamental and wild, she belongs to the criminal type of the Hitmen, which means that she does not tremble when it comes to swinging her spiked bat or releasing her dog to deal with her enemies.
Tom Lee | Leader of On Leong Tong in New York, where he was labeled "the mayor of Chinatown", Tom Lee arrived in Chicago after faking his death to avoid the clutches of his worst enemy, Mock Duck. In the Windy City, Lee still has his nose for business and his knack for gambling.
"Raven" Kwiatkowski | King of extortion, Michael "Raven" Kwiatkowski is a mysterious thief of Polish origin who loves luxury and the good life. He arrives in Chicago, where there is a large Polish community, to carry out all kinds of assignments to fill his pockets.
And now that we know each other, let's see how these powerful allies work on the board:
THE ENFORCERS IN MULTIPLAYER MODE
Enforcers are three special characters that players can recruit throughout the game. They are part of a common market... and there are only three of them, so you can imagine that they have outstanding abilities and a notable impact in each game. After many -MANY, for real- games, we have concluded that the Enforcers were not going to be hired as if they were Right Hands (which was their original mechanic), but rather fulfilling three requirements.
At the start of each game, a random Job card with 3 requirements is placed under each of the Enforcer cards. Players who want to recruit one of the Enforcers will need to fulfill those requirements. When they do, and if they do before anyone else, they will take the Enforcer card to their hand, as if it were an Associate, and place the Enforcer miniature on the headquarters. This makes recruiting the Enforcers different in every game, making it even more interesting.
Each of the Enforcers is accompanied by two cards: his Enforcer card, where you can see his muscle points and influence, as well as his skill and the effect it has on the crime rate; and a second card, which has the specific rules and passive skills of the miniature on the board in multiplayer games.
The Enforcers, as we said, also have their own miniature and move around the board like the rest of the thugs. Their power on the board, that is, their strength on the streets of Chicago, lies in the fact that they all have a series of skills that are activated at specific moments of the game. They all have four skills, being the last two common for all of them.
Alina Ivankova: The Russian fighter can use two different skills from the boss of the gang, as her main skill. Among her skills on the board, her strength (double than a regular thug) stands out to seize or defend neighborhoods or her ability to survive, after paying a gun, to enemy shots. If you like action on the streets of Chicago, Alina and her cute pet is your Enforcer.
Tom Lee: Tom Lee is a businessman whose main skill allows free access to the resources of one of your Deals. Among his abilities, whenever you give an order that involves moving a thug, you can move Tom instead. And he also has the bribery rule, that is, he will take his bite as if he were a policeman, each time a player enters a District or makes a sale. Tom is an ideal Enforcer for those who want freedom of movement and a to extort their enemies on the streets of Chicago.
“Raven” Kwiatkowski: Speaking of extortion, I present to you the king of this specialty. The main skill of the Polish thief is that he allows you to retrieve a thug when he enters the scene… as well as giving an extra 5 dollars for each gang upgrade you have at the end of the game. If a player makes a sale in a District where Raven is present, that player pays the player controlling the Pole a number of dollars equal to his crime rate level. Pure extortion! Also, if Raven leaves a district, he can steal a resource (gun or alcohol) from each of the rivals present in that district.
THE ENFORCERS IN SOLO MODE
Scarface 1920's solitaire mode is based on a two-player game in which the other player is controlled by an AI (artificial intelligence) that builds a deck of cards with its own deck building system. This artificial intelligence will carry out its activity in Chicago just like any other player, but it will show a superior resource and organizational capacity than ours, so we will have to learn to optimize our gang to the maximum in order to overcome it.
In the case of having the Enforcers Expansion Pack, your rival gang for the solo mode will have the invaluable help of an Enforcer, whose miniature will be used to determine where the power of the rival gang manifests itself. In this mode, each Enforcer has a character sheet that explains their abilities and victory conditions, which have a different impact on the game. And what powers do Enforcers have in Solo Mode?
Alina Ivankova: The Russian ex-combatant is a powerful enemy in the streets of Chicago, very difficult to defeat, since she adds protection tokens in her neighborhoods and, when she has put 15, she wins the game.
“Raven” Kwiatkowski: The fiercest enemy for players who boost their deck building. The Polish thief keeps on adding unusable cards into your deck, torpedoing your strategies and making the game harder as time advances. Raven wins if he reaches $250 or runs out of extortion tokens.
Tom Lee: Every time any thug receives a hit or a kill, Tom Lee places a murder token in that district. When a district has three murder tokens, authorities take over it and it is closed for good and disabled for the rest of the game. Tom, the recruiting specialist, wins if he gets 10 or more thugs on the board, so you will need to decide if you let him put all those thugs or start killing them, risking the closure of that district. Hard choice. By the way, the game ends without a winner if five districts are closed.
Remember that you can download the solo mode rules and character sheets, among others, on our website. Oh, by the way, we just opened a specific page for The Enforcers Expansion Pack on the BGG. Please follow us there if you want to support us! And I remember what we told you at the beginning: we hope to have news about shipping very soon. See you soon!
Give me a Right Hand
– Thu, Jun 02, 2022 at 06:09:07 AM
Hello friends. Everything is fine, don't worry. We have simply decided to break the rhythm of one update per month to stop making kilometric updates and to give our game, Scarface 1920, a little more attention and content. Because production, shipping and delivery times are key, but also it is everything that continues to evolve and that will happen in the streets of Chicago when you have Scarface 1920 in your hands.
Speaking of hands, the stars of this update are the Right Hands, that is, the core of the Boss most trusted men and women in each of the gangs. Although history has taught us that each one had its particularities, the gangs had five key players in terms of strategy and decision-making. At the top of the hierarchical ladder was the Boss, of course, but around him there were always four prominent figures who contributed notoriously to the growth and expansion of the gang. On some occasions, these figures were relatives of the Boss, among whom agreements of honor and relationships of close trust were established. No leaksallowed.
At the beginning of the campaign there were only two Right Hands: the Counselour and the Underboss, but thanks to the efforts of all the backers -you-, we managed to unlock the other two during the Kickstarter campaign: the Chauffeur and the Bookkeeper. The Right Hands are not part of the initial deck of each player, but are unlocked as the power of the Boss and the gang grows. Let’s get to know them better:
Chauffeur: The guy who spends the most time with the Boss, his confidant and his most trusted man. On the board of Scarface 1920, the Chauffeur is a key piece for the control of Neighborhoods and Districts. His ability allows you to get rid of a nearby enemy thug, an action that can be repeated by spending a gun. That means he is great at clearing the streets of enemies. His crime type is Violence.
Bookkeeper: They are the brain of the gang, the ones in charge of handling the accounts, moving the money and avoiding the Treasury. On the board of Scarface 1920, of course, the Bookkeeper powers up the economic engine of the gang, allowing you to draw a new Dealer and get a resource of your choice when they are played. Their crime type is Vice.
Underboss: The heir to the throne of the gang, according to the chain of command. They also used to be the most impulsive and visceral members, the first to put his chest to take a bullet instead of the Boss. On the board of Scarface 1920, the Underboss speeds up the deployment of men in the streets since he allows you to take a thug from the safehouses to any district or send all the thugs you want to a District in which you have a presence, from your Headquarters. If the underboss comes into play, the night will not be peaceful. Their crime type changes to match the one oftheir Boss.
Counselor: The counterweight to the Underboss, as he was the most thoughtful and strategic figure in the band. He had a cool head and put his experience and common sense at the service of the Boss. On the Scarface 1920 board, the Counselor allows two orders to be carried out in a single Action turn, using power and influence at the same time. The Counselor is an ideal piece to optimize all your movements in the same turn.Their crime type is Gambling.
HERE YOU ARE
Although it does not have a direct impact on the game or its production, we are very excited to share with you this beautiful brochure that you will find inside the box if you backed Scarface 1920. On the first page you will see all the exclusive rewards that were unlocked during the Kickstarter campaign. Not bad, right
In the following pages, as we promised during the Kickstarter campaign, you will find your name. Each of you. The ones that made Scarface 1920 possible. And at the end of it, a huge thanks you to show how grateful we are for the success of our first campaign.
By the way, have you already found yourself on the list?
