CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR ALL BACKERS!
over 2 years ago – Fri, Dec 03, 2021 at 01:35:48 AM

December has arrived, the cold has arrived -at least, in this part of the world- and the long-awaited Christmas gifts are also arriving. From Redzen Games we want to thank all the backers with a very special Christmas gift... but before talking about that, I want to tell you something just as important: we extend the Pledge Manager dates!

According to our work schedule, the Pledge Manager was due to end on December 5th. However, we have decided to extend it a few more days, specifically, until December 27. And what is the reason? We have two:

  • There are still a few backers -fewer and fewer- who have not completed the Scarface 1920 purchase process, so we're giving them a few extra days. In any case, and this is very important, all of you who have already completed it will be charged on December 6, as originally planned. If you have already completed your Pledge in our Pledge Manager, you don’t need to do anything at all.
  • Christmas is coming. And that means, as we said before, that it is time for gifts. Well, can you think of a better gift for that gamer friend, for that friend who is not yet a gamer but should be, or for you brother-in-law, than a Scarface 1920 game? Now you can buy the game in the version you want (Mobster, Big Boss, King of Chicago, All In) and give that person a beautiful Voucher that we have designed for this special occasion, and that you will find in our website (here!). Ideal for those who never know what to get: a Scarface 1920 Kickstarter Edition!

Yes, I know ... you have come this far looking for the gift that we promised you in the headline. To thank you for your support, we have created an exclusive card for all our Kickstarter backers. It is a thematic Job (Instant) for these special dates. Friends, let me introduce you to a very naughty Santa Claus that has just come to our town of Chicago...

In the Prohibition era, it was quite common for gangsters to take advantage of any opportunity to distribute their merchandise without being seen. And Christmas, due to the fact that the streets are full of people moving gifts back and forth, and men disguised as Santa Claus, it was an ideal scenario for the distribution of alcohol and weapons in the neighborhoods. If we take that reality to Scarface 1920 we find Santa’s Gift, a perfect job to carry out sales in your neighborhoods, because it allows you to count your thugs as trucks, therefore, you get a discount of one resource for each thug in the district. Remember, each truck allows you to make sales paying one less alcohol or gun. But those Christmas surprises are only for the good boys, so you need to have your Crime rate at 6 or less, or there is no gift. Ho ho ho! Isn’t it nice to see all those thugs waiting in line for their gift? Lovely fellows. From Redzen Games, we believe that it is a good way to thank you and wish you a Merry Christmas.

By the way, even if you don't see it, we continue working on various fronts, including the production of miniatures or the final design of the rulebook. Oh, and we continue to listen to your proposals and comments and react to them. For example, during the Kickstarter campaign, some of you told us that during Prohibition it was not so common to use the word "Federals" to refer to Prohibition agents, and that it would make more sense to use "Raids", for the actions that those agents carried out against our gangsters. Well, after some investigation, we have two things to tell you: the first is that you were right and the second is that we have changed the design of the back of the "Federals" cards, which now become "Raids" cards.

That's all! Just remember that some of you have not yet completed the Pledge Manager, which will finally end on December 27th. Do not forget about it! Thank you all for your support and we will see you very soon!

About solo mode, the rulebook and other important things
over 2 years ago – Mon, Nov 08, 2021 at 02:16:53 AM

We keep our word. In last week’s update we promised that we would return with more news in a few days, and here we are. The Scarface 1920 machinery continues to work at full capacity and today we want to show you a series of important details in three areas... although there is something more important for all of us: the Pledge Manager ends on December 5, as previously announced. In other words, all of you who have not completed the Pledge Manager process, only have one month left… What are you waiting for?

ABOUT SOLO MODE

One of the backers' favorite topic during the Scarface 1920 Kickstarter campaign was solo mode. As you may recall, The solo mode is based on a two-player game in which the other player, The Enforcer, is controlled by an AI (artificial intelligence) that builds a deck of cards with their own deck building system. This artificial intelligence will carry out its activity in Chicago like a player, but it will demonstrate a resource and organizational capacity superior to ours, forcing us to optimize our gang to the maximum to be able to overcome it.

Well, solo mode has been one of the main focuses of the entire Scarface 1920 team for the past few months. Today, we can announce that we already have the complete deck of solo mode cards. It consists of 36 cards of three different levels: 6 basic level cards, 18 advanced level cards and 12 superior level cards. These cards, which will be unlocked as the game progresses, will make up the deck of The Enforcer against which players will compete in solo mode.

In addition to the deck, we have also completed the gangboard that each of the gangs that we will play against in solo mode will have. Those solo mode gangboards will be printed on the back of each gang’s regular gangboard. Both boards will be similar, although with slight differences that we will soon discover: have you seen that “power” level and those new icons on the left of the solo mode gangboard?

In this sense, what we can tell you is that we have achieved a solo mode that is sooooo interesting and that will put the smartest players to the test. And remember that this mode also works perfectly with the Enforcers expansion, which adds even more depth to the games. In short: you are going to have a great time.

ABOUT RULEBOOK

This might not look like a big milestone, but believe us when we say that it is: we have finished the rulebook! (Sound of beers opening) What's more: we have finished the rulebook ... for competitive mode and solo mode! (Second round of beers). It goes without saying that the rulebook is the key to the whole project, the reason why you are (and we are) here. Well, the rulebook has already entered its translation and design phase.

ABOUT REVIEWED AND UPDATED CARDS

The last point of the day takes us to all the Scarface 1920 cards: Associates, Federals, Jobs, Newspapers... Through your comments on Kickstarter, your suggestions through different channels and the many (maaaaany) games that we have played at Scarface 1920, we have detected that some of those cards had balance errors, were not polished enough or their abilities did not quite fit with the essence of the character. Over the last few months we have been modifying and testing them to make exactly the game we want and for you to enjoy a truly immersive experience.

We leave you here an example, in this case for The Widow (Associate Card), which has been redefined to make her a true black widow, with an extremely powerful but dangerous ability. You can see that the new one (left) is much more thematic and challenging than the previous version (right).

All that said, you should know that we continue working on several fronts: adjusting miniatures, preparing the molds of these miniatures in the factory in China for mass production, translations or, among other things, playtesting The Enforcers expansion cards. We are will have a bunch of new assets and things to show you on the next update, so stay tuned.

Oh, and remember: the Pledge Manager ends on December 5. Go for it!

YOU ASK, WE ANSWER: FAQS ABOUT PLEDGE MANAGER
over 2 years ago – Sat, Oct 30, 2021 at 09:47:02 PM

Hello again, friends! Three weeks have passed since our last communication, in which we announced the opening of the Pledge Manager. During these days we have seen, among other things, that Scarface 1920 is having a second life (thanks!), that you really like our Addons (these Plastic Money Tokens are a hit) and that throughout this process also some important doubts have appeared.

Although we are trying to solve all your questions individually, we believe that it is important that we make public the most common ones, since surely many people have found themselves or will find themselves in the same situation. Let’s see them:

  •  What is the closing date of the Pledge Manager? Friends, all good things come to an end. And the Pledge Manager for Scarface 1920 closes on December 5th. I mean, close to Christmas. In other words, the ideal time to, in addition to your Scarface 1920, buy one to gaming buddy!
  •  Is there any more info on the Art Book? The Art book is one of the most original and exclusive pieces of the Scarface 1920 universe. It will have around 100 pages, will be DinA4 format, hardcover and will contain hundreds of  illustrations and narrative content. Among other things, there will be a section with all the miniatures of the game, one with sketches of the process of creating the characters ... and many of the jewels created by Antonio Stappaerts, our illustrator. Finally, we remind you that this is the only product that is solely and exclusively in English language.
  •  How can I obtain the invoice for the purchase made? All invoices will be issued when shipping has been paid, to unify this process. By the way, remember what we told you about shipping in the previous update? The current shipping price, due to global restrictions caused by the coronavirus, is through the roof. As the months go by, those prices should adjust, implying better costs for all backers. Therefore, the shipping will be charged just before shipping, next spring.
  •  Is it possible to leave the Pledge Manager open until the shipping is ready? Unfortunately, it is not possible. We must send the most accurate number of units to be produced to the factory, so the Pledge Manager must be closed before mass production of the game begins.
  •  Can I downgrade Pledge and if so, what happens to my money? Yes, you can downgrade a Pledge, for example you could go from an All In Pledge to a King of Chicago Pledge. In that case, the money that you put in at the time will remain in your account and you can use it to pay the VAT (if applicable), the shipping or add any Addon.
  •  Are the resources (goods) that come in the base game pre-painted? No. The Scarface 1920 game includes the barrels and guns that we showcased in the Kickstarter campaign… which, by the way, are very nice miniatures. During the campaign, many backers asked us for more resources to use in other games, or to make their game even more luxified, and we thought those would be a great Addon.
  •  I want to change my Pledge to a higher one, how can I do it? If at the time you bought a Mobster Pledge, but now you know you must have a King of Chicago Pledge, right? You're right: you need a King of Chicago Pledge. Here is an explanation, step by step, on how to upgrade Pledge: 1) Click the link in the initial email that Backerkit sent you.  2) On the main screen, under the green “Get Started” button you will find a link with the words “Switch your pledge level”. Click. 3) Select the new Pledge you want and hit the Switch button. 4) Complete the Survey and… voilà!
  •  Are any of the Addons necessary to play Scarface 1920? No. None of the Addons are required to play Scarface 1920 and none include any special rules or content for the game. For example, the extra pack of miniatures of characters or cars are designed, among others, for people who like to paint miniatures, for collectors or for those who want to use the minis in other games.
  •  Backerkit does not ask for the language of the Paperboy + 3 news cards, will it be in the same language as the complete box? Don't worry: the Paperboy is multilanguage and thus has no language selection. It will be shipped in all languages available.
  •  The Pledge Manager will be open for a few months, but shipping will not be paid until spring. Will the Pledge Manager reopen by then? Right now, we do not plan to reopen the Pledge Manager when the shipping payment process starts, as the product enters its production phase. A simple paying process will be opened to collect the shipping costs and all backers will be informed.
  •  When will the payments begin to be collected? Although it may seem incredible, there are people who are eager to pay. Relax, this process will begin on December 6.
  •  Can Addons that were purchased directly in the Kickstarter campaign be unlocked? The system does not currently allow that. But if you request it, we can manually do that for you in the backend, since it is a new Kickstarter functionality. In future campaigns, the Addons will be open by default.

Remember, if you have any questions regarding your survey, you can send a ticket directly to Backerkit support or send us an internal message through Kickstarter.

And this is all for now. Stay tuned because in the next few days we will bring you another update with succulent news about the development status and production process of Scarface 1920. See you soon!

The day has come: our Pledge Manager is open!
over 2 years ago – Fri, Oct 08, 2021 at 11:33:41 PM

Scarface 1920 is about to start a new phase. Although many of you are expert Kickstarter users, there are many backers who have just discovered the platform with our game or who, although they already knew it, had not decided to back any project to date.

Today the Pledge Manager opens, that is, the meeting point where backers tell us some important things such as where they want their Scarface 1920 game delivered. But it is not the only option that backers will find in their Pledge Manager, here you can also:

  •  Change the level of you pledge: if you backed to get to the Big Boss Pledge but now you want to do an All In Pledge, for example, the Pledge Manager offers you the possibility to change it.
  •  Select the language: This is where you decide if you want your copy of Scarface 1920 in English, Spanish, Korean, French or German. That also applies to all add-ons that have text. At Redzen Games, we continue working to add new languages in the future.
  •  Buy new Add-ons: Do you want to get hold of the neoprene mat or the art book? Nothing happens, the Pledge Manager gives you the possibility to add all the Add-ons that have been part of the campaign ... and three new ones: extra set of vehicles, extra set of goods (prepainted) and The Enforcers Expansion Pack standalone.

Additionally, you may be asking yourself some important questions about shipping, languages, and other important issues. Below we try to answer some of them, although you can also use the Kickstarter comments or social networks to solve them.

  •  How do I access the Pledge Manager? Check your email. The one you use for Kickstarter backing. Our Backerkit colleagues have sent you an email to inform you of the next steps to access your Pledge Manager.
  •  Are Kickstarter prices still the same in the Pledge Manager? Yes, the prices have not changed. Remember that, depending on the country where the shipment goes to, the buyer must assume the VAT payment. Everyone, in addition, must bear the costs associated with shipping.
  •  Why am I not paying for shipping now? The current shipping price, due to global restrictions caused by the coronavirus, is through the roof. As the months go by, those prices should adjust, implying better costs for all backers. Therefore, the shipping will be charged just before shipping, next spring.
  •  Do I keep my Kickstarter rewards? Yes, the rewards have not changed. For example, if you backeted the game in the first 48 hours, the Paperboy will automatically be included in your order.
  •  Can new backers join? Yes, the Late Pledge is going live now also, so if you have a friend who missed our campaign, he still has time to join. Tell him about it because it would be a shame if he were to miss his Kickstarter version of Scarface 1920.
  •  Can I add other pledges to mine? Yes, other pledges can be added as Add-ons. For example, a backer could add two 99€ Mobster Pledges and collect the associated rewards.

In Redzen Games we are working so that the game is in your hands as soon as possible. Right now, we have a part of the team finishing the details of the Enforcers Expansion Pack rules, and we have already started production of the miniatures with our manufacturer: Eastar. Also, we are working on the graphic design of the solo mode cards and Antonio Stappaerts is working on the latest illustrations of Jobs for the game. By the way, take a look at the neoprene playmat!

Although you may not see it, the machinery has not stopped working since we finished the Kickstarter. Of course, we will also solve all the doubts you have about this phase of the campaign, about the payment processes, about Add-ons or about any other relevant issue. Remember that the Pledge Manager will last around two months. See you soon!

WE'RE BACK WITH SOME NEWS!
over 2 years ago – Thu, Aug 19, 2021 at 04:21:16 AM

Hello friends, how are you? It's been a month since the Kickstarter campaign for Scarface 1920 ended. During this time we have continued to refine the development of the game, we have been working on the post-KS calendar and, we are not going to lie, we have also taken a break. But we are back with some interesting news!

THE PLAYER AID

First of all, which is also the most important in this update, is that we have finished the Player Aid, AKA Quick Reference Sheet. We already had this element in mind when we were designing the game, but in the wake of the Kickstarter campaign, and thanks to your feedback, we decided to make it one of our priorities. Here you go:

The Player Aid will be your best friend in the early games of Scarface 1920. Conquering the throne of Chicago is a complicated challenge, and this reference sheet will help each player define their own strategy based on the options that exist in each play and in each turn. Knowing all the possibilities that Scarface 1920 offers at every moment of the game is essential to dive into the Chicago atmosphere of the 20s, to really feel that you are leading a criminal gang.

WORKING ON THE CHAUFFEURS

The Kickstarter campaign is over, but at Redzen Games we are still far from finish with the production of Scarface 1920. One of those who has been working hard during these weeks -actually, since we started the project- is our illustrator, Antonio Stappaerts.

A ton of new cards were unlocked during the campaign, which will obviously have their own exclusive artwork. One of those cards is that of the Chauffeur, one of the henchmen of each gang, which each player will be able to unlock as the game progresses. Well, Antonio is also making progress in defining these characters, among others, as you can see in these Work in Progress sketches.

PLEDGE AND LATE MANAGER

The latest news of the day is that we are finishing outlining the Scarface 1920 calendar, that is, you will soon know the date of the Pledge Manager and the Late Pledge. As you know, it will be the moment when you can specify to which address the game has to be sent, with what name you want to be represented in the game credits, select the language in which you want Scarface 1920 or, among other things, buy new add-ons. See you soon!
